About this Event
1836 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44115
The Cleveland Police report youth arrests in 2023 were up 21% from the year prior, including a significant increase in violent crime and murder charges. With Marsy’s Law giving victims more rights and presence in the courtroom, tensions between parties are at an all-time high. Juvenile court hearings are often becoming more emotional for victims and juveniles alike. Judge Sweeney will share the purpose and goals of juvenile law, with a special examination of the role emotions play in the juvenile courtroom: What is remorse? If defendants show remorse, are they statistically less likely to offend again? How can victims and their families find closure?
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
